Brittany Ray is the town slut. That is what everyone believes so that is the way she will act. If they don’t like her, she claims she isn’t worried about it. At least she isn’t following in her mother’s footsteps into drugs and alcohol. However, Brittany does have a heart and a sensitive soul. She has aspirations to join a design firm and design clothes. However, with no college education and no money, how can she do this?
Hunter Covington is the second son of THE Covingtons. He is different from his brother Jace. Jace goes along with his parent’s ideas of how he should run his life, and he can manage to hold conversations with people he doesn’t like or even know. When Hunter is on the verge of heading to college, he finds out his brother just brushes off his parents’ lectures and does what he wants. Luckily it is also what they want. Hunter just can’t do that. He tries but he doesn’t want to go into the family business. He wants to be liked for himself not for his money. He wants to see Brittany Ray but thinks he doesn’t have a chance.
The chance for the two to get together comes at the last party of the year. Two drunken men start harassing Brittany and Hunter steps in to protect her. She gets mad instead. Mad that he saw her in such a predicament not that he helped. Now what does he want? At the most, they would have one night. Would that be enough for them? How can they think of getting together for good with their social classes being so different?

This is the short Prequel to Unafraid, the story of Britt and Hunter.

The end of the summer, the night before Hunter had to leave to start college at Yale, and the night where for once he followed his heart and had everything he wanted in his arms. Britt never thought anyone could make her feel all the things that Hunter made her feel and she fell in love even though she knew she'd be setting herself up for heartbreak. Even as young as she was, she knew this wouldn't last. Hunter is the golden boy and she was no one. Will they find a way to work it out and stay together? We'll find out in their full story, Unafraid!
Again a good short story, but you have to buy another book to read the entire story. I detest that, and there is the same prelude in each of her books. The same one over and over. I like this writer but I do not like these teaser books, that make you have to buy another book for the rest of the story!
Brit is wounded ”I would never let myself believe in love… everyone I love always leaves me in the end.” Hunter is searching ”there are some things more important than money. Like passion, freedom.”

They are both strangers

They’re fairy tale does not start with “A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...” or “Once upon a time...” They’re story starts with one cute introduction
“I don’t think we’ve met,” he says, sticking out his hand to shake mine. “I’m Bob. Bob Smith.”

and a night of passion. A difficult combination to resist.

Melody keep up the great writing, one suggestion out the novellas and the book after it together, so that we don't have to wait for the end of the story.

Loved this short, sweet, and steamy novella. I recently went on vacation and pretty much had a Melody Grace book binge. This book picks up right where I wanted, which is learning the background about Brit. I wanted to hear about where Brit and Hunter began. They had one night, a party, then a secret sanctuary, and then the blinding reality of sunrise. Brit and Hunter are inexplicably drawn to each other; however, Brit knows that if anyone has the power to break the walls she has build around herself, its Hunter. So she allows herself one night to indulge in her fantasies and leaves immediately the next day. I cannot wait to continue the story and see what happens next in Unafraid.
I love these little glimpses into how these couples meet and how the drama in their full length book got started. Hunter and Brit are pretty great together in this novella. They both have their images that they want to shed or at the very least have someone see beyond it. Hunter doesn’t want to be the rich boy who visits Beachwood Bay during the summer. He doesn’t want the life that his parents have set out for him. Brit doesn’t care that people see her as the town slut, but she wants Hunter to see beyond that and to know she is more than what people say about her.

They have one night together and that night is pretty great. I couldn’t wait to read their full length novel after seeing the kind of sparks that these two had together. I’m eager to see how their relationship plays out given how different they are.
Mine shouldn't count-----he is 19 and she is 16. that was enough for me. They have no clue of life or what it is all about but they know everything. I just couldn't struggle through another teen love!! Then I read a review and there was NO ENDING. I hate those kinds of books, so I will pass on this one. Not for me.
